How much is having ‘No Commute’ worth to you?

How much is having ‘No Commute’ worth to you?

How much is having ‘no commute’ worth to you? I have friends in New York and while they love their jobs, they simply can’t stand the one hour plus commute in back to back traffic each direction, each day! ‘Stressful’ ‘frustrating’ and ‘time wasting’ were the words they used!

I asked friends who work in the Financial Services Industry in the City of London about their commute from their country houses in Sussex and Surrey. While spending up to an hour and a half on the train each way each day, allows them to catch up with emails, they are still conscious of how much time they are wasting travelling.  Yes, they made the bold decision to move from the city when they chose to have kids, but sadly, the long commute means they rarely get to see them!!

Image living somewhere where you had a very short commute, or no commute at all! Imagine having a life before and after work during the week?  What would you do with that commuting time?

Well in Grand Cayman, we strive for that ‘enigma’ of a work/life balance and while we don’t always get it right, we are discovering that having no real commute means we can cram so much more into life. We can smell roses and seize the day!  Imagine going for a run on one of the world’s most beautiful beaches before work each day, or having time to do a grueling Cross Fit Class to get you pumped for your day?  Frankly, there’s nothing like a 6am power yoga class to get your mind ready for a hectic day ahead, or going paddle-boarding in Cayman’s turquoise waters to decompress after a day in the office!

Spend time kite surfing instead of commuting!

I leave my house at 7.15 each morning and can be sipping Espresso at my desk by 7.30am. We work hard, but also have time to play hard in Grand Cayman and no commute means time to enjoy action sports, or dine in the 120 restaurants here, or spend quality with friends and family. Life is short and you must live it!

So, when people ask me, “how much is having no commute worth to you?”, I say “frankly, its priceless”!
