I’m Melissa Comparin, the newest member of the Baraud team and a guest blogger of sorts!
So my journey started with a vacation to this beautiful country and now here I am working with Baraud… with a few choice details excluded. I still remember the moment when I got the email asking me if I wanted to join the Baraud team on a 6 month contract … I was shopping at Fosters enjoying a fairly quiet afternoon. Email correspondence in Toronto is usually a sign of dismissal so my initial reaction was disappointment but when I opened the email I quickly realized it was an offer and my heart started racing; adrenaline filled me with excitement and joy … I couldn’t believe it. I had landed the job and a new chapter of my life was unfolding. It was exciting and terrifying all at the same time. I’m thousands of miles from what I know, from what I call home, and yet it felt right … the decision to say yes was a simple one … as though it was meant to be. So the next few weeks were full of anticipation … getting ready for a new job, in a new country, with a new company, joining a new team … so many new things to look forward to. I traveled home for a week to get ready and then the Saturday before I started my new job I arrived back on the island with my dog, bright eyed and bushy tailed to start my new adventure.
Monday morning I walked into Baraud to many smiling faces. I was introduced to both teams; recruitment and immigration, and as the island has been so gracious to me, so were all the employees at Baraud. I met each of them and felt immediately a part of the team. Being in a new country with new laws, policies and procedures I had many questions and thankfully, everyone has been very patient with me as I transitioned into my new role. I have always been an ambitious person, priding myself in my work abilities and so I dedicated the next four weeks to really absorbing as much information as I could … and trying not to pester too many people in the process … :). Krystal, Eden, Minaz and Suganya have been vital to my integration and I thank them immensely for helping me settle in. And a special thanks to Stefan and Alan for taking a chance on a ‘courageous’ Canadian! Cheers to the next 5 months!
